End of an Era: Panini Says Goodbye to World Cups, Topps Takes Over in 2031

It's official, and the news has shaken the foundations of collecting: FIFA has confirmed that Fanatics, through its brand Topps, will be the exclusive licensee for World Cup albums and stickers starting in 2031.

After more than 60 years of a tradition that began in Mexico 1970, the iconic Panini brand will no longer be present at the planet's most important sporting event. For those of us who grew up swapping "figus" and checking off numbers on a list, this is not just a commercial change; it's the closing of a historic chapter in our lives.

What exactly is happening?

The agreement announced by Gianni Infantino grants the American company Fanatics global rights to produce stickers, cards, and trading card games. This is part of an aggressive expansion strategy by Topps, which has already snatched major licenses from Panini, such as the UEFA European Championship, the Premier League, the NBA, and the national teams of Brazil, Italy, and England.

But it's not all goodbyes. This change brings with it a technological revolution. Topps plans to introduce "Debut Patch" cards: unique cards that incorporate pieces of the actual jerseys players wear in their first World Cup match, something that is already a success in MLB and the NBA.

The Golden Opportunity: Why Complete the 2026 World Cup Now?

As experts in the industry, we know that license changes often drive up the value of the latest editions. Here's why the collection we have in our store today is a piece of heritage:

• The penultimate in history: The agreement with Topps comes into effect in 2031. This means there are only two World Cups left under the Panini brand: the current 2026 one and the Centenary one in 2030.

• A giant and unique format: As the first World Cup with 48 teams, the volume of stickers is historic. Having this album complete will, in a few years, be a testament to the transition from classic to modern football.

• Guaranteed investment: Panini earned $720 million in Qatar 2022. With the news of their departure, interest in their last "official" collections has multiplied. Collectors are already hoarding complete sets, anticipating that the price of loose stickers will rise when Panini can no longer print them.

Don't miss out on "the last Panini"

We know that in the current market there is scarcity and resale prices are rising. In our store, we maintain our commitment to the real collector. We want you to complete your album without overpaying and with the assurance of authentic pieces.

We are at the beginning of the end of a romantic era. In 20 years, these 2026 World Cup stickers will be remembered as the last great treasures from the Italian house.
